Some years ago, I went on an 8-day silent retreat. On about the third day of a retreat during which I grew increasingly restless, my spiritual director suggested that I pray with this passage from Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." 

For me, this scripture verse was a game-changer. It made me realize that God has a plan, and that our job is to discover that plan and be faithful in living it out. This is what God is asking. This is how the Body of Christ will flourish here in Beverly!

So I ask you: What does God have in mind for me, for you, for our faith community? We need you. Together, we all need each other and the Church, because, together, we must go forward in discerning God’s plan for our future. It starts, as it always must, at the Eucharist, the source and summit of our lives as Christians. And, from there, our calling goes forth to love and serve the Lord in every aspect of our lives. So, let us go forth together, for the Lord is doing, as He is always doing, something new!
